Stars and Checks Baby Outfit

Grandma came to visit and we had to have a fun outing to Lakes Makerie of course! I picked out this sweet combo of a starry knit (Birch Organic Cotton Interlock) and this famous Merchant and Mills "Wes" Gingham. I wanted to make them in to pieces that would work well together, but also on their own.
Now that I've finished these two in a relatively timely manner, it's time to go back for the other cute knit+MM linen combo I had my eye on.

Sewing knits is not my forte or favorite, so I wanted to pick a pattern that would make sewing knits as "easy" as possible. This pattern uses elastic at the wrists and leg opening so it isn't necessary to use a zig zag or stretch stitch of any kind on those areas. I also worried about the button placket being fiddly so I omitted it and did lapped shoulders with snaps instead.
There were a few other construction details I changed per my personal preferences in constructing knits and tiny things. (Such as: finishing the wrist hems flat, serging the underarm seam, and topstitching the seam down to the sleeve hem. This is something I've seen done in other baby clothes to avoid sewing tiny wrist hems in the round )
This pattern is designed for both knits and wovens which is nice! I mostly ignored the instructions other than seam allowances, so can't really speak to how good they are.
Seam allowances are 1/4" which is super small, so I think next time I'll do bigger allowances. Could probably get by without adding any extra to the pattern pieces since the fit of this is generous.

I wanted a pattern that would transition easily from a dress to a top as she grows — and was simple enough to finish in one nap!
